Life as a Medical Student in Oradea, Romania

Legend has it that King Ladislaus, revered as the Holy of Hungary, embarked on a hunting expedition in what is now the area of Oradea fortress. During his night's rest, the Virgin Mary visited him in a dream and instructed him to erect a church on that very spot. The pious king dutifully fulfilled this divine command, leading to a influx of pilgrims who came to pray at the newly established altar. Over time, a protective castle was erected around the church.

As a result, the city derived its name from the fortress itself, as "Oradea" translates to "castle." In present times, the historical remnants of the fortifications and the church endure, imbuing the city with a distinctive historical ambiance. The numerous baroque structures from the Austro-Hungarian era further contribute to the refined aura of the Old Town district.

For international students, the city is perceived as both secure and welcoming, providing a comfortable environment. They relish the diverse offerings of the local bar and club scene. Leisurely walks in the city center often culminate in a visit to a pub or restaurant for refreshments.

Moreover, the city boasts several parks and gardens, offering residents opportunities to reconnect with nature. For those seeking a more immersive experience, Dealul Somleu, a national park located just a short distance from the city, awaits exploration. Multiple trails traverse the hills, inviting people to discover the scenic beauty of the area.
