About the Medical University of Debrecen

 

Founded in 1912, the University of Debrecen initially consisted of four faculties. The medical school encompasses 22 departments in basic sciences and 25 clinical departments, covering areas like Clinical Chemistry, Internal Medicine, Surgery, Psychiatry, and Paediatrics. With its comprehensive clinical departments, the Medical University of Debrecen also serves as a city hospital, offering students abundant opportunities for clinical training.

The faculty of medicine began offering M.D. training in English in 1987, starting with a modest 49 students. Today, the University of Debrecen boasts an impressive enrollment of over 1500 students. The University of Debrecen provides English-taught programs in Medicine, Dentistry, and Pharmacy. Graduates of the six-year Medicine program are exempt from the PLAB exam when practicing in the UK. Additionally, five-year Dentistry and Pharmacy programs are available.

 

The faculty of medicine is situated at 4032 Debrecen, Nagyerdei krt. 94, Hungary. While graduate entry routes are unavailable, student transfers are accepted.

The Debrecen Athletic Club introduces unconventional sports opportunities like beach soccer, bridge, cheerleading, and sailing. Debrecen Medical University Tuition Fees:

 

The tuition fees for English programs at the university are as follows:

 

- Medicine (6-year program): Approximately £13,300 per year

- Dentistry (5-year program): Approximately £13,750 per year

- Pharmacy (5-year program): Approximately £6,300 per year

- Pre-medical (6-month foundation course): Approximately £5,650 (one-time payment)

 

Debrecen Medical School Admission & Entry Requirements:

 

Securing admission to this esteemed medical university in Hungary mandates several prerequisites. English language proficiency, a pivotal requirement, is assessed through the entrance exam. Additionally, a high school certificate is essential. Demonstrating competence in biology and either chemistry or physics is crucial, necessitating success in both written and oral entry exams.

 

The annual application deadline falls on the 30th of June.

 

As an alternative pathway, enrolling in the foundation year medicine course presents an opportunity for guaranteed entry into the first year of your chosen program, contingent on successful completion of the foundation year.

The degrees in medicine, dentistry, and pharmacy offered by the University of Debrecen hold recognition across all European Union states, the European Economic Area, as well as by reputable institutions such as the General Medical Council (GMC), the World Health Organization, the State Education Department (NY, USA), and the Medical Board of California. A degree earned from the University of Debrecen Medical School unlocks global employment opportunities.

 

Student Accommodation:

 

The university extends several hostels in close proximity to the main campus. These accommodations vary in room types, including single, double, and triple rooms. The hostel rooms are equipped with essential amenities, akin to those found in a 3-star hotel, such as air conditioning, wireless internet, TV, bathroom, and a fridge. The cost per person per semester averages around £550.

Academic Calendar:

 

The academic year traditionally commences in early September, concluding in mid-December (spanning 14 weeks). The exam period for the first semester falls between mid-December and late January (covering 7 weeks).

 

The second semester initiates in early February, spans 14 weeks, and wraps up in mid-May. The examination period for the second semester occurs between May and June.
